About mE

Hi, my name is Ian Jeffery and i am the founder of Subsea Fundamentals. The trusted leader in training and education for underwater equipment for governmental organizations and the industry. I aim at providing high quality service to my customers in the Subsea industry.

I started as a sailor in the Royal Dutch Navy in 2007. After training I was assigned to a mine hunter as a sonar operator. I discovered soon that I was not yet ready to spend 90% of my time indoors. I decided to see if diving was my call, and this turned out to be the case.

I completed my diver training in 2009 and spend the following 11 years as a diver for the Royal Dutch Navy, Defence diving group. In this period i was able to perform great things, experience sad things but most of all learn a hell of a lot about the military subsea industry.

Some of the things I was able to do while working for the Navy:

  • Salvage crashed sports planes.
  • Search for historic ordnance and clear them.
  • Search and recover missing persons while working with different national law enforcement.
  • Map Dutch submarines of the coast of Malaysia.
  • Provide training and support to other Military units.

The last 5 years in the Navy (2014-2019) I spend working as an underwater equipment operator and diver from shore. With the time I had left over I started my bachelor. In 2019 I passed the study and received my bachelor’s degree.

This period of working from shore enabled me to become a specialist in subsea vehicles and equipment. I was the key user in the navy’s AUV’s, ROV’s and hand held diver navigation.

I was lucky enough to receive factory training and work side by side with the maintenance technicians and manufactures. This gave me a great opportunity to specialise in this subsea world.

I left the Navy in 2019. The combination of my son being born and a lack of fitting growth opportunities within the navy made my request for my resignation. I started working as an independent trainer and technical advisor for manufacturers, suppliers, and the military.

Every day I use the experience I build up in the past 15 years to perform state of the art training and support for my customers.
