CASE: ISS360 scanning sonar, testing capabilities

Technical support

The new ISS360 sonar was connected and tested this week at a location near Subsea Fundamentals.
The ISS360 sonar is reasonably new in the market and before doing any suggestions about it, tests needed to be done.

The conclusion is that it is an easy to use 360 degrees sonar with a good resolution.
It can be connected using ethernet, r232 and rs485 making it simple to connect to multiple platforms.
This makes is fitting for navigation and orientation but further field tests need to be done to confirm its use to locate bottom objects.

Did you know we can provide training in this sonar?!

Active sonar

Active sonar like the ISS360 scanning sonar is a type of sonar that works by emitting a sound pulse and measuring the time it takes for the sound to bounce back from an object. It is commonly used by ships, submarines, and underwater remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to navigate, communicate, and detect objects in the water. Active sonar is useful for detecting objects that are relatively close to the source of the sound, and it can also be used to map the ocean floor and as part of obstacle avoidance. It is an important tool for navigation and communication in the underwater environment and is used in a variety of applications, including military, commercial, and scientific.

Impact subsea ISS360 description:

The ISS360 is the world’s most compact imaging sonar and provides an ideal solution for ROV & AUV navigation, obstacle avoidance and target identification for the smallest to the largest underwater vehicles. For operations requiring a higher angular resolution and range capability the ISS360HD is an ideal choice. Both the ISS360 and ISS360HD utilise a Titanium housing to enable many years of operation. The ISS360 is available in depth ratings of 4,000 meters / 13,123 feet or 6,000 meters / 19,658 feet.  The ISS360HD is depth rated to 6,000 meters / 19,658 feet as standard. All sonars can be provided with integrated gyroscopes and accelerometers, providing stable Pitch and Roll readings.

Technical support

“I would recommend anyone the technical support services provided by Ian Jeffery of Subsea Fundamentals. He can assist both on the customers location or at a location needed for testing which is of great help to our business. Ian is knowledgeable and able to adapt support to our needs. He has assisted us with technical support in the implementation of Acoustic positioning and sonar systems. This is combination with our Deep trekker ROV’s“

Navigator training

I recently had the opportunity to work with Ian Jeffery on a training in underwater navigation. His knowledge and expertise in the subject matter was evident from the start, and he was able to effectively tailor the training to the needs of my military customer. It was a pleasure working with Ian and I would highly recommend them for any training in underwater navigation.

Sonar training

From a selection of external instructors in the field of Sonar training specifically for our Water Accidents Teams (24-hour service Emmen & Voluntary Water Accidents team Assen), the choice fell on Ian Jeffery. This turned out to be a very good choice. The refresher/further training courses were unanimously assessed as 100% positive on content, but also on the human aspect. “A great instructor who thinks along”
